Old Fools Journal: Voting Day October 22, 2011 or Wasting my time.

This is proof that I went to vote today.
It does not prove I voted. It doesn't matter whether I did or not but I did.
I did not vote for anybody.
What voting I did was against the incumbent but there was not anyone on the ballot worthy of a vote.
If there had been a "None of the above" it would have been my choice but
I did go vote not that it matters.
It was nice ride with beautiful weather but I did not care for finding this molting turtle in my neighborhood. It's not quite as big as the one I wrote about a few post back. It was molting so the automobile completely flattened it. It was a little too fresh to bring home but a week in the sun, ants and wind will fix that. I'll check on it next week.  I have christened it "Frisbee".
I told Frisbee what I thought about voting today but he seems preoccupied. If anyone had seen me standing there in the street talking to a roadkill turtle they would have just thought I just was talking on the phone. It's a kind of craziness that is accepted these days.

When I got home I played in the dirt. It made me feel cleaner than voting did.
Bike riding:                                                           positive
Looking at the Golden Rod:                                positive
Re-potting a plant:                                                positive
Voting:                                                                  negative
Observing the lack of sensitivity of people:       negative

Do you suppose that not voting could be construed as a protest?

Talk to me. I'm not familiar with turtles molting, at least any I'm aware of up here. Is this a soft shelled turtle or do all turtles molt?

I don't know. It's what SWMBO calls it. The shell appears to flake off with new soft shell under it. I know that crab does that and is considered a delicacy but I wouldn't eat one at gun point.
I have seen that the shell seems softer when the outer skin flakes off.
Google it.
I don't mess with them much except I find letting them go to waste is distasteful.

With all due respect it looked like roadkill to me!

YES! We'll go nationwide with this!Every election day (weather permitting),instead of voting, we'll go out and collect squashed molting turtles and goldenrod. We'll make wreaths and bouquets of the dry turtle parts and goldenrod to place on the doors and stoops of the voting stations... this being a non-violent type of protest and all. It will be grand!

Excuse me from laughing my head off after reading this and Steven's comment.. great way to lighten voting day!!!... this might even make it a day worth looking forward to.. except we don't have any squashed turtles.. just squashed skunks.. think they will do?

Ted- the line "so the automobile completely flattened it" is probably a dead give away.

Gwen- Steven is making fun of me and that is allowed.

I always vote because I prefer our representative form of government to hereditary monarchy and/or totalitarian dictatorship and/or anarchy, so I make the best choice I can and take a hot shower afterwards. I also contact my elected representatives when issues that I am concerned about are coming to a decision point. Sometimes this also feels like pissing into a hurricane-force wind, but I prefer it to the alternatives also. Occasionally, they even call or email back, which reinforces the illusion of participation at least a couple of notches above the level of helpless turtles being steamrolled by history, wealth, and power.

J.R.A.-I have been voting and writing to my so-called "representatives' for over 50 years and the only consistency I have seen is that each "representative" tries to make a larger group appear to represent them. Not once have I found that I or people like me are represented. A representative government does not try to load the dice or rig the wheel while in power but I have never seen anything but that.
Humans are such small thinkers.
Including myself.

Nope. Not making fun. Just being a goof. I went on a hay ride last night with twenty or so five-and-unders... they haven't worn off yet.
So you know, I don't collect the flattened turtles. I do, however, collect the croaked ones with intact shells... Terrapins mostly. I have empty homes hidden all over my gardens.

I think not-voting is considered as "not caring" and so it gives politicians the freedom to do whatever they want.
Of course, if you DO vote, it's considered as agreeing and once again they can do whatever they want.

The only way would be to really have a "non of the above" or a protest-option, I bet that would give an explosion of votes.

Just sitting here thinking about your comments, wondering what the powers that be would do if "none of the above" were to win. In my opinion for quite a while at least I can vote against the worst choice, even if there is no "good" one.

Nice bike basket by the way.

Steven: You are still allowed. I envy the hayride.

Stephanie: I am happy to hear from you. I believe it is a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation.

Bob: Not a single thing I voted passed or got into office. I must be terribly out of step. I am about to go into the "don't give a shit mode". My bride says she will vote as soon as they put "none of the above" on the ballot. Until then she will just bitch.

Paleotool: The basket with bike attached is the most important part of this post. The basket is a flat sided wall hanging basket re-purposed from the thrift store.

Morning Oldfool: Seems to me it's the flip of a coin. One view is that voting just encourages them and allows them to believe the illusion's still working. Me, I just figure the cost of gas ain't worth whatever statement it might make. Old Jules

Jules: Agreed. We seem to be on parallel tracks.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is voting for evil.

Oldfool said...

kfg: Yes it's not even as good as choosing between a broken arm or a broken leg. It's more like which leg do you want broken?
