Old Fools Journal: Do You Long For Some Agent Orange In Your Life?

or What a glorious world it will be when Monsanto owns all the food.
What could go wrong?

Monsanto is a corporation and corporations are people. As John Fogerty sang  "I know it's true, oh so true, 'cause I saw it on TV". In this case some no nothing politician said it. The only thing wrong with this is that  if a person did what Monsanto does they would be executed. What I mean by executed is drug out bodily by a mob to their fields of "genetically modified organisms" tied to a stake then the whole thing set on fire. How do you execute or even punish a corporation? The method we use now is to fine them after the bodies are found. They pay hundreds of millions of dollars which does not bring back the dead, heal the sick or protect future generations and it is a fraction of one percent of the profits made under the protection of the government. They are, like the oil industry, intent on making a profit at any cost. The cost is our health and our lives. It has an upside. It turns our millionaire congressman into billionaires.

I would really rather eat food and not "genetically modified organisms". I don't want Genetically Modified Organism on the cob smothered in butter laden with anti-biotics and growth hormones.

If you truly long for agent orange then use a lot of  24D (Round-up) and you may find what you are looking for.  You can have my share.

I have boycotted Dow Chemical for years because of the deadly chemical warfare weapons of mass destruction they manufacture and now I boycott Monsanto for their warfare on the plants that sustain us. I don't know how successful it is but it is something and if I am doing it then so are millions of others.  My tomatoes may not be as big and as pretty as yours. They may be downright unsightly at times but I'm not afraid to put them in my mouth.

In my quest for information I use several hours of my remaining life everyday studying how to grow stuff and I recently ran across this documentary "The World According to Monsanto".  As near as I can tell it has not been shown in the U.S.A.  It is a full length movie, one hour and forty nine minutes (in metric that is one hour and forty nine minutes) and far exceeds the attention span of most Americans.

The photo at the top is of one of our mini-gardens in the big garden. It is 2 feet by about 4 feet and there are five rows.  Sounds crowded doesn't it but it's not. It has three rows of French Breakfast radishes on a staggered planting schedule and two rows of bunching onions. The radishes are coming up and I eat them as fast as they grow usually right from the ground. I do shake the dirt off and rub them on my kilt to clean them up. No one else here much cares for them. By the time these are finished I'll have had my fill until the fall. Really I'd rather have them than candy.
By the time they are finished the onions should be getting to a usable size. I eat them straight from the soil as well. This soil has no petro-chemical fertilizer. We have used it in the past but I think it is all gone now. I hope so.
This is an 18 foot row. The potatoes are in upper left and in the foreground are brussel sprouts and cauliflower. It's supposed to be all brussel sprouts but it was mislabeled and I just read the label and didn't look at the plant. Dumb, however we are eating the cauliflower and it is ever so good. I'm going to plant it again in the fall. There are only four brussel sprouts to get us through until fall and it will just have to do. Eight plants carries us through the summer and fall but we'll be a little short unless I can coax some to flower in the fall.

The soil in these beds is of my own mix some of which is from Texas and some from Arkansas. The potatoes are a mixture of soil from here which came from the "worm bed" where our kitchen scraps go. It has a hundred pounds or so of what I call Bill Clinton soil added recently. I call it that because it came from Hope, Arkansas. Unlike Bill it has no bullshit in it but it is silty and fine and cuts the abundance of clay we have nicely. It will all be buried in hay mulch soon.

A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows.  -Doug Larson

There's been a lot in the blogs bout "man" altering and adding chemicals to what we eat. You would think that grow'n your own would get away from this, but with folks like Monsanto, what choice do we have?
Good luck with a good garden harvest this year.

How do plants grow in soil imported from Texas? I think fertilizer from oil goes through different processes than raw Texas soil.

Actually, Cargill controls the actual food supply. As if that is any consolation.

I love brussle sprouts, eat a bunch of them.

I have not enough sun to garden and can't afford to buy organic at the store, but I sure wish I had an alternative to frankenfoods. BTW I got a pumelo at the grocery store after I saw your post and it was heavenly!

I might just grow with you this year Boss. I miss the garden.

Your post makes me want to fence off a part of my yard and grow some veggies. The thought of eating a radish, onion or carrot right out of the ground seems a darn sight preferable to a lot of the junk produce from the store. Happy gardening!

I recently discovered all my dad's ca 1968-84 organic gardening magazines and his garden diary. I am going to plant a smaller scale garden than his this spring. I've been building a compost pile for over a year for the flower beds which will now be diverted. I keep notes on what you write about the plants and planting. I avoid chemicals here at all costs.

Just found your blog and finding it very informative ( and funny).
Your soil from Arkansas might be worth testing as it's a from big chemtrail area. Might be high in aluminium and barium.

Richard,
The Monsanto video is phenomenal.
When I was younger and dumber, I thought working as a Statistician for Monsanto would be like a great gift. Little did I know then! Glad I am doing something else.
Thanks for the great link to the video.

Paz :)

The World According to Monsanto runs regularly during fund drives at Free Speech TV 9415 dish and Link TV 9410 dish. FSTV and Link ("funded by the people") are also available on other cable providers and they are free to anyone who wants them, you just have to ask your carrier to get them. You can also find them online; but I don't think you can stream the Monsanto movie. They utilize it for gifting during fund drives. I have recorded it to DVD.

I also thought you all might like this link about how politics zaps our energy and is intended to, so says the author. I tend to agree. I am trying just to get informed enough to have the insight and ammunition for community building. And thank you all for your help.

Billy Bob there is no way to get around ingesting man's foolishness but there are those trying hard to lesson the impact. I am finding more and more seed that is not hybrid.

SteveA Texas dirt much to many Texans dismay is just like any other dirt. It doesn't even brag about being from Texas. Taste, smells and feels like any other dirt.

Gunnar that is no consolation.

ladyhawthorne buy or steal a dollar store ten gallon storage container and a bag of potting soil. Buy or steal a package of dollar general radish (33 cents) seed. Put it together and you have a garden. There is no excuse. Don't forget to water but not too much.

Steven I'm surprised you don't. Talk about something to be obsessive about. You would squirm yourself right out of your skin if you saw how I do it.

billyflippicklepoo even if nothing grows much at first it is a chance to dribble some of the artist in you into the dirt and a chance to absorb some back from the Earth at the same time. Success is the doing of it not the results.

Lord Wellbourne those magazines are probably collectors items now. don't lose them as the info is a good now as it was then. All of our garden is small scale with just a little here and a little there. Several years ago I put in about 10 ten foot rows and we planted. It was too much because I then I lost interest. We have more than that now but it is a little dab here and a little dab there so there is no burn out.

Jock I simply do not believe in conspiracy theories especially as there is just not enough brains or cooperation in government leaches to formulate one. Jet engines do not cause contrails as they were there when piston engine aircraft started flying that high. Contrails are formed by wingtips and are make of the same stuff as clouds. I worry more about stupidity that conspiracy.

Chandra you are welcome. I am glad you are not working for that evil corporation as well. I would be very disappointed.

Ms.SpoolTeacher you tube is my channel and it streams quite well.
I stopped doing politics and I stopped doing the news entertainment as well. I did not even watch or listen to the last state of the union address nor did I listen to some thirty something explain it to me. All of that stuff is either lies or implied lies. It is all designed to waste your time and energy. When I stopped doing that I found I had loads of time and knew as much as I did bfore. I have to admit it was a hard habit to break and it took me over a year to break it. I still check the weather but mostly I do that by looking out the window. I'll follow you link after my important nap.

OF. I'm not into conspiracy theories either. Just facts.
Contrails are caused by the hot air leaving the aircraft engine and suddenly cooling down as it reacts with the atmosphere. This quickly disappears.
Chemtrails are different because they also contain aluminium and bromine.
Did you watch the video ?
It's most likely geo engineering for the global warming scammers although some claim it's designed to make the soil contaminated and only Monsanto seeds will grow in the soil.
Another theory is that it's used to help the HAARP signal travel easier across the earths atmoshpere.

I had not looked at the video when I commented but now I have seen enough to get my interest so I will watch it this evening.
As for the contrails just cause I made a living flying jet airliners doesn't mean I know anything. Sometimes I'm wrong. In any event I am against them for all the good that will do but just try to book a ship for Europe or Hawaii. If all the commoners in the world stop flying the 1% could keep the contrails going.

OF. Thanks for watching the video.
I was ground crew for 25 years and am the most critical person you could meet.
But when my lovely blue sky over Scotland is turned into a cloudy mess by aircraft in a couple of hours I'd love to know why.
Fast jets used to lose their contrails after a few minutes. Now their chemtrails spread slowly over hours and block out the sun. We need sun in Scotland ;)

My dads' garden was more than half an acre. He loved being in it from dawn to dusk seven days a week. Now that I've lived with HRH for nearly three years I understand why. I want a small patch to begin with and see how it goes and where it leads. I treasure those books ad was so glad they hadn't gotten tossed out after he became too ill to garden. On the other hand, anything that's ever entered this house has NEVER been thrown away.

This is why we're learning how to grow as much as possible ourselves, mind you having grown up in the UK just after Chernobyl I think I may well already glow inside, goodness knows what we ate before we understood the risks.

Gwen's been hinting at me for a while I should come over to your place and say hi. So, hi!

She says I'll find you funny, informative, and you also enjoy poking fun at this up-side-down world.

Gotta say, watched that Monsanto vid a while back. Scary. Nothing funny there. But hey, who cares...money is where it's at!

I think I noticed somewhere Robin Hood and his band of merry men at an occupy wall street protest. If only...
